UnderDrives 101 .
All underdrives are custom made from hard anodized 6061-T6 billet Aluminum on CnC controlled mills and lathes. They are hard anodized for the long wear life and the lightest weight possible. All timing marks are laser cut for the best accuracy. These are Top Quality performance parts.
Under drive pulleys operate in much the same way as a lightened
flywheel by lessening the load on the driveshaft both by losing pounds of
rotational mass and by decreasing the rate at which the accessories are spun. This is often viewed as offset by the decreased
load your crank sees & the extra power you are able to get to the wheels.
These pulleys have been tested on and currently being used on our own vehicles,
but like any performance part,
many people worry that underdrive pulleys can cause charging or overheating problems due to slowing down the alternator and water pump. If you have a high output stereo system this may be a concern, otherwise charging is fine under all driving conditions. When racing or driving at high RPM's, it's actually safer to reduce the alternator speed, as they can come apart when overspun. As for the overheating I have never noticed any temperature change. I use a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water with a bottle of water wetter added in.
